Book To Buy: Where I'm Coming From: The Year in Review By Imam Zaid Shakir

The past year has been a trying one for Muslims in the United States. The drone of anti-Islamic sentiment has been steadily growing since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, but a number of events in 2010 helped amplify the voices of anti-Islam bigots to a frightening pitch.

These events include the Fort Hood shootings, the failed attempt to detonate a bomb aboard an aircraft bound for Detroit, Michigan, the failed bomb attempt at Times Square in New York, the manufactured controversy surrounding the “Ground Zero Mosque,” and the “Qur’an burning” event organized by an unknown Florida pastor.

Imam Zaid Shakir has written essays about many of these events. Some were posted on his website, New Islamic Directions, while others were written for Emel, a groundbreaking Muslim lifestyle magazine in the United Kingdom. Where I'm Coming From is a printed collection of some of those writings.

  1. Thanks for this. Yes, it has been a trying year for us. Last summer was intense with the "Ground Zero" issue and now since the OBL killing, it's gotten worse, with vandalism and similar issues, as you know. Let's see what happens.
