Dealing with Muslim Men (I)

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

I generally like Muslim men, they try to represent Prophet Muhammad and emulate the 'walking Quran' description, just as Muslim women try to mirror 'Aisha's orating, Khadija's love and business skills and Fatima's humility and modesty, may Allah be pleased with them all. Ameen.

HOWEVER, in meeting 'some' Muslim men, remember - this is 'SOME' - I'm not against the male species or advocating their extinction - I find that their attitude is stuck in pre-Islamic Arabia. They want to bury my voice, cover me in jewels and sell me for the highest price. A woman is a commodity, either marry her, sell her or have children with her. Are you kidding me?!

I've had so many conversations now with Muslim brothers (within good boundaries mind, I encourage the principle of distance and frankness without getting wedgied in ethical dilemmas) which have basically followed this pattern. And I'm tired of it. If you ever meet me remember I am no holy-man, I will not abide by insulting criticism or prevention of progress which ironically helps YOU too. If you can't stand the Muslim Zaufishan heat, get off the planet and make your own. Hmkay?

Generic Conversation (1)

Man 'brother': "Sister, it's not good attending these Islamic organisations, they are *different* to Muslim teachings, they will *make* you commit shirk, deviate and disrespect Prophet Muhammad".
Me: "Are you a member of them or have you attended any of them?"
Brother: "No, but I heard this from someone and he said..."
Me: "Ahhh, sharrap".

Suspicion is from Shaytan. Speak good or keep silent.

Generic Conversation (2)

Man 'brother': "Sister, I THINK talking in public is haram for women, you should write your ideas down so WE BROTHERS can mull them over for you... next year.. during the masjid committee meeting.. where no women are allowed either"...
Me: "I shoulda been a man so I could whoopass your chauvinistic refutable oppression back into 610AD."
Exit.

Is it just me or are 'some' Muslim men still in pre-apocalyptic 570AD Jahil era?

Talking of Jahiliyah (ignorance) here is a scene from The Message, directed by Moustapha Akkad (incidentally, brother Moustapha was killed in 2005 by a bomb in Jordan, may Allah have mercy on him). This video was linked to me by a GOOD brother Esmir, as'salamualaykum! And I love this scene too for its depiction of beautiful brother Bilal, the first muadhin (caller of adhan), and the Final Sermon of Rasool'Allah Muhammad (pbuh). Below is the manuscript of his last words which, if you're human, you need to know.

"Allah is THE Greatest... I testify that there is no god, except Allah! I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah!"

The Prophet Muhammad called the people for the last time:
  • "Oh people listen well, for it may be the last time I may speak to you...
  • The weak among you - feed and dress them as you are fed & dressed...
  • "Remember you will be held accountable for your actions...
  • You are all Adam's children, the most pious of you is best in character...
  • Let your feuds be abolished...
  • Remember that all the Muslims are brothers and sisters, friends... There are no races and tribes...
  • You must not take anything except what is taken freely...
  • Do not oppress, and do not BE oppressed.
  • I am but a man, maybe the angel of death will visit you or me soon...
  • I have left you a book revealed by Allah... The Quran, follow its light & guidance..."

'This day I (GOD) have perfected your religion for you and have chosen for you Islam as your religion!' (Qur'an, 5:3)

And THAT is what Allah calls brotherhood

  6. Haha..Alhumdolillah I have not *personally* met anyone like that. However, I hear stories from others.

But we have another kind of male species (*some*) in my extended family who are "liberal". They say, "Islam is very modern. Don't wear hijab." I just stare and smile.
