Ramadhan - Day 5: Songs of Praise
I've spent the day listening to Quran and brushing up on Arabic as well as nasheeds*.
There is a massive array of musical art form now that is really pushing the boundaries of what previous generations listened to. Interestingly, the nasheed genre is bringing to light the beautiful traditional Islamic songs in Urdu, Arabic, South African and Malay.
I have an eclectick taste in all things though particularly music that brings the remembrance of Allah to the heart and tongue. Here are my top 20 albums at the moment - you should definitely listen to them:
1. Yusuf Islam, Ramadhan Moon - Download Free
2. Native Deen, Stand Alone
3. Zain Bhika, Allah Knows
4. Dawud Wharnsby, Out Seeing the Fields
5. Outlandish, Closer than veins [Anyone heard Isam Bachiri's debut single 'Beny Adam'?]
6. Sami Yusuf, 2008 Album, Asma Allah
7. Hamza Robertson, Something About Life
8. Blakstone, in particular 'Taking Over'
9. Dawud Wharnsby [again], The Poets and the Prophet, in particular 'Block', reminds me of the Beatles 'Within Without you'
10. Shaheed Alkawn, Unity Album
Let me know of anything else out there and what you think of these!
Peace be with you :)
