Support Sarah Bibi's "Fasting For Africa" Islamic Relief Campaign

Africa - Ethiopia / local teenage beauty

As-salam`alaykum warahmatullah,

In our Ramadan month of giving we are reminded again by fellow Muslims what "giving" truly means. In our friend's case, actions do speak louder than words.

Sarah Bibi, an active and entrepreneurial Muslim, has been fasting to gain sponsors by friends and the online community. This fundraising will be donated to the East African famine relief insha'Allah and is in conjunction with Islamic Relief.

That's not all. While we Muslims are on our 21st fast, Sarah Bibi began her fasting weeks before Ramadan began. I do think it's amounted to around 50 fasts so far. May God bless Sarah Bibi and reward her for dedication. Everyone say "ameen".

A note from Sarah,
"The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Anyone who looks after and works for a widow and a poor person is like a warrior fighting for Allah's (swt) cause, or like a person who fasts during the day and prays all night.' (Bukhari)

My Challenge
Inspired by this hadith I have decided to complete a voluntary fast everyday until the start of Ramadan, insha'Allah. I intend on maintaining my heavy workload and all my commitments during the days, as I normally would so no sleeping half the day away!

I think many of us, including myself, have build a resilience to seeing suffering around the world, especially in Africa. It is important that we remind ourselves and are thankful to Allah (swt) for our own blessed lives and we actively strive to complete our duty to help others.

The Harsh Reality
A deadly combination of successive failed rains and rising food prices has resulted in the worst drought the Horn of Africa has seen for 60 years. Some 60 babies are dying each day in one camp. Every 24 hours, more than 3,000 malnourished people arrive at camps already too crowded to accommodate them. The lives of half a million children are at imminent risk. And, in total, no fewer than 12 million people are fighting for their very survival.

Every pound you donate could make the difference between death and survival
  • £14 can provide a child with high energy food supplements for a week
  • £50 can provide clean water to 1000 people
  • £100 can provide emergency food to 100 families per day
  • £150 can treat 10 malnourished children for a month

Please note: Although my personal target has been reached, do not let this deter you from donating. There are now over 14 million lives in danger and a child dying every 6 minutes. Usually I would encourage individuals to donate their zakat to a UK cause. However, if you are donating your zakat to Africa anyway, please feel free to do so through this page. Jazak'Allahu khair for all your continued support.

Sarah Bibi."

Your support will literally save lives. I, Zaufishan, am asking you to give, give any amount, but give.
