It won't stop snowing. Alhamdulillah, snow removes impurity in the heart and clothes. It also makes English motorists drive slower than dead slugs.

Update: Having attended the Al-Maghrib course, I now have homework! A 2-page assignment on the Quran-ic themes and chapters I learnt inshaAllaah. Arabic is the key to the Quran. Y'can't possibly comprehend the magnitude and rich wealth of the words unless you've a fairly good grasp of Arabiya.
In the Quran, Allah talks about His Arabic Quran:
"And thus have We sent it (the Quran) down to be a judgement of authority in Arabic. "
Quran, (13:37)
"We verily, have made it a Quran in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions)."
Quran, (43:3)
"Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran in order that you may understand."
Quran, (12:2)
"And if We had made it a non-Arabic Qur'an, they would have said, "Why are its verses not explained in detail [in our language]? Is it a foreign [recitation] and an Arab [messenger]?" Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure." And those who do not believe - in their ears is deafness, and it is upon them blindness. Those are being called from a distant place."
Quran, (41:44)
Because the Quran's original audience were Arabic speakers, because Arabic has a certain superiority over its predecessors and illegitimate languages today (both Urdu and English are examples of illegal offspring), and because Allah chose Arabic for Divinely beautiful reasons, it only makes sense that to 'listen' to Allaah fully, we learn Arabic to absorb the Quran. To 'communicate' with Allaah however, there are no lingual barriers. I'm desperate to develop my Arabic. I'm only on level.. 0.7... I'm an embarrassment to my Arabic speaking friends too who fluently converse, then look at me, and shake their heads in disdain when I yell "Ahlan! Wa sahlan!... La la la?" (that basically means 'welcome, no, no, no').
Alongside that I'll be posting my learnings from Al-Maghrib soon. This includes a synopsis liketafsir of the 29th volume of the Quran, Arabic study and the stories narrated by Allaah, as well as mind blowing narrations of Heaven, Hell, life's journeys, the Prophet Muhammad's limitations and the stages of disbelieving. It's all too exciting to anticipate. Seriously, I want to tell you know that 'kaffir' has a positive meaning, and that 'jannah' means cover and has the same root as 'jinn' which are both invisible and therefore part of the 'ghaib' - unseen dimensions. BUT! You're gonna have to waaaaaaiiiit.

ReplyDeleteWoweeeeee, those posts are going to rock! I too feel bad that I don't know proper conversational Arabic - my late father did buy me this book entitled "Arabic for English-Speaking Students" which I will have to somehow get around to working through - insha'allah in between treating patients maybe? Or at least on my days off . . hmm, future project for baba for sure. I did go to Arabic/Islamic school back when I was younger, much younger, so there is definitely some history that I can build on. I have improved on my Urdu very much in the last few years, so next up - Arabi!
See, you're inspiring already Sis - job well done on that front and looking forward to at least going through your lessons as a start, which will hopefully build up towards the future self-teachering (OH NO! 'Zaufishani' language! What's happening to me??).

Still snowing, eh? Sheesh. We've got a bit everyday as well, but its warmed up to above freezing, but did fall on my bum a few times over the last two weeks, including yesterday - not fun - my right arm has been feeling weird and not always comfortable at night, but no worries, 5/6 doctor Anees will survive. :-)
