Jehovah's Witnesses tried to Save Me.

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

Last year in September I was visited by a Jehovah's Witness - Paul. He, bless his soul, stood by my front door explaining to me why God my Father sent Jesus to remove my sin, the miracles of the Bible, the end of the world and how I should be like him.

I allowed him to talk about the big bang, God's humanity, inherited sin and other things since it would have been ignorant to yammer on with an "I'm right, you're not" attitude. After, I had made a mental note of his points and with a S-M-I-L-E told him I had already been saved a few years ago by becoming Muslim.

He still tried to save me from... Islam?

I went on saying I followed the Quran which abrogated the Bible and believed in Jesus as a Prophet but not as the saviour of my sins. This surprised him. My deeds are my own I rationalised. I'm living to do good to go back to heaven (Paul explained that JW's do not believe in Hell or Heaven as separate entities. The Kingdom of God is on Earth... I'll explain in a later post.)

Paul the Witness came around three times after that, having listened to me for about an hour standing in the rain. It came to a point where he knew I wasn't going to budge but enjoyed listening to our comparisons of our faiths (lucky me for having read up on JW's back in college. I still have their Bible and a copy of 'Would you like to know the Truth?' leaflet.)

This year two Jehovah's Witnesses came'a'knocking with leaflets and preaching a'plenty. These two were women, Polish and keen of 'cleansing' my mind to accept Jehovah's Truth. Another 30mins of talking, and I explained to them again, I do believe in Jehovah - I just call him Allah: The original Hebrew and Arabic name in holy scriptures.

They told me well the Qur'an and Islam is a younger invention, and such a new faith has less historical value, as well as mistakes (they meant the 'contradictions' on alcohol & smoking laws, pfft, corrected them!) I suggested if that's the case why do Christians not follow the Torah which is EVEN OLDER than the Bible and has EVEN MORE historical value? Following Moses would mean living by God's commandments for the Children of Israel and waiting for the Final Messenger to free them (turns out that was Muhammad... uh-oh...) Plus, the Biblical stories have many mistakes so even if I were to accept the 'contradictions' in the Quran (3!), it still beats the Bible's 3000+.

Anywho, they tried to save me. A lot.

Since we got on so well in our views of Adam & Eve, Judgement Day, living good moral lives, education and knowledge, we called it quits, shook hands, exchanged dawah books (yep, gotta give'em a copy of the Qur'an since they didn't own one) and went our ways.

This week, another Jehovah's witness came (I bet they have JW meetings to pick targets in different areas!). I'm no holy man, I can't be preached at or convert others who are equally faithful to their deen as I am. So I took a leaflet 'What God plans for us all' and closed the door with 'byes! thank yous! see you laters!' I locked the door and turned off all the houselights.

Alhamdulillah I'm glad I met the JW's though. Reading on other people's faiths is one thing; our minds' consider everyone else as 'lost' who need 'saving' too - meeting people with different faith and talking to them helps us build bridges and share lives and ideas. God have mercy and bless both polish sisters and brother Paul the Jehovah's Witnesses. (Turns out my window cleaner was a Jehovah's Witness too).

If only Muslims could adopt this dawah technique of mass scale preaching and door to door exchanges of knowledge. I have a deep respect for JW's.

I just wish they'd quit trying to save me.

  1. Ahh, loved that Sis. There are a lot of JW's around here in the States as well. In fact, just walking distance from our neighborhood is one of their "Kingdom Halls." Awesome job though - its a great way to do Dawah of course, just by sharing one anothers beliefs. Thanks for sharing the saving attempts with us :-D.

  2. The Bible has 3000 mistakes? I don't expect you to know them all but can you name some?

Thank you for being generous with your respect towards the Witnesses, even though we are on a different path. we believe like you that Submission to The One and only True God is essential for salvation as God is great indeed.

  4. Hi Graham
You should read the Quran, you may believe in you religion strongly, but you're not going to loose anything if you do. There's only one version of the Quran, everywhere in the world, unlike the bible. We believe that the bible is the word of god too, but it's obvious when you see the number of versions that are available that it has been changed over the years. you ask god to guide you in the path of the truth, and compare the quran and the bible.
