Sahaba Cards: `Abdullah Ibn Jahsh

`Abdullah Ibn Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with him, was the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, and he was amongst the first to accept Islam. He was married to Abu Sufyaan's daughter.

After migrating to Madinah, `Abdullah was chosen by the Prophet, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, to lead his first military expedition. Along with seven other Companions, `Adbdullah was asked to track the movements of a Quraysh caravan. Instead, the group killed some members of the caravan and captured others.

This occurred during the sacred months when the Arabic respected a period of non-fighting. With Quraykh using this incident to attack the reputation of the Prophet, Allah revealed that their plots against Islam were a greater offence.
"I appoint as your Commander the one who is best able to withstand hunger and thirst." - Prophet Muhammad.
`Abdullah participated in the battle of Bard and later in Uhud where he supplicated to Allah to grant him martyrdom. At the end of the battle, he was found slain with his body mutilated. Rahim'ullah, may Allah have mercy on him. `Abdullah ibn Jahsh was buried in the same grave as Hamza, may Allah be pleased with him, the uncle of the Prophet.
