Ideal Muslim & Children

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

Introduction

Children are the ‘apple of a man’s eye’, the source of great joy and interaction. They really do make life sweet (and entertaining!); after Allah, they are the ones on whom a Muslim father pins his hopes. Children’s blessings within a home bring rizq – Provision, mercy and a truckload of reward for everyone around.

But all this depends on one factor - the children having a solid, inspiring and knowledgeable upbringing. This is dependant on intelligent parenting. And thiswill Insha’Allah make them respectful, kind and a fountain of Imaan. If a man’s children have these good attributes then they will truly be a joy for this life as Allah has described in the Quran:

‘Wealth and sons are allurements [joys] of the life of this world…’ (Surah 18:46)

For this reason, the Final Prophet (sa’w) used to pray for those he loved, that Allah would grant them wealth and children in abundance.

Anas (A Sahabi – Companion) reported that he entered the Prophet’s (pbuh) house with his mother and maternal aunt. The Prophet (saw) led them in prayer [how utterly awesome!] and made a dua for them. Umm Anas (Mother of Anas) said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, your little servant, pray for him.’ So the Prophet (saw) prayed for him and at the end of his dua said: “O Allah, grant him wealth and children in abundance and bless him”

Children are demanding. A marriage is a unity where two adults are commanded to ‘cloak’ one another. But children, they require round-the-clock attention and protection from birth to adulthood. If any parent neglects their children’s vital Islamic upbringing, the results will be disastrous. Their children will be a constant struggle; frustration builds from both sides, children will rebel and parents won’t accept.
