Message of the Week

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

Authored by Imam Suhaib Webb, in a recent talk given at the University of California Berkeley, about the role of Muslim blogs and the need for openness and compassion towards Muslims. I thought it was important.

"You cannot go to someone and feel that you have to change their life, religiously. Try not to authenticate yourself. A report showed that people who spend more time on Facebook and chatting online are frustrated, more prone to be unhappy, than those having meaningful conversations with their spouses for example *duh*.

You have to show that you care about people, show compassion, be their hug-buddy and listen to their cultural, contextual problems without dictating from a book.

Give them mash potatoes, give them dhaal and roti. Be the comfort food for people."
