Writing for the Green Prophet
In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم
There's a general complacency within Muslim culture towards financial achievements, and dare I say it, climbing the social ladder. This unfortunately overrides the Muslim 'khalifa' duty towards the planet, which in Islamic teaching is a basic requirement of the Muslim lifestyle: If you're going to use the earth's resources, be prepared to maintain it. Nothing lasts forever.
For my personal environmentalism I literally take baby steps, tiny steps to conquering climate change, global heating and all those other media-scary terms, therefore don't assume I'm orating at you for not looking after our home. I recycle, I re-use almost every scrap of wrapping paper and junk mail; I don't let taps and showers run, I don't follow fashion trends therefore sticking to one wardrobe for several years, I donate towards eco-aware causes and help Muslim environmentalists promote their projects. {check out muslim enviro projects here}
Now imagine my utter delight at reading all of the eco-enviro-peace-loving-world-hugging points mentioned in a fantastic website called Green Prophet! They're based all over the world much like my group blog {Muslimness} is, however they focus their content towards the Middle East, a region which makes up of 20+ countries, which, let's be honest, doesn't get the best publicity with 'certain foreign fingers' in their cookie jars. Green Prophet is lead by oneKarin Kloosterman, an equally environmentally aware writer, or more so since Green Prophet reports on dramatic, global changes in people's lifestyles, and how this affects the Middle East in particular.
Recent Green Prophet articles were on recycling junk mail {carry out that project here}, Iran's Biofuel Project {here} and Edible Weeds! {weed that here}
To top my 'greeny' craze even further I was contacted by Karin Kloosterman (how awesome is that name?!) to write short pieces on the Muslim environmentalist lifestyle and collaborate my 'Muslimness' with Green Prophet. Of course I said yes, alhamdulillah (praises to Allah for this) and now I look forward to sharing this from England, UK, to the Middle East, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, around the world, and with you.
It would be great to see Green Prophet grow in this new direction, it doesn't lack spirituality, but was indeed missing the Zaufishan-Zing Factor *childish grin*.
Will keep you posted! Make dua' that it pans out well and I'm not fired in the first week! If you have any ideas let me know. Alohas to Karin if you're reading this too.
