Making gingerbread men

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

In the spirit of giving sugary love and a Ramadan tradition I uphold, gingerbread men were hand-baked in the hundreds. I posted these out in couples to family, 'friends' (they are lacking) and online contacts.

In case you're ever in dire need of a gingerbread hot men recipe, follow me...

Ingredients - 12oz plain flour, 4oz brown sugar, 6oz butter, 1tsp bicarbonate of soda, 2tbsp of ginger powder, 4tbsp of golden syrup (or treacle) and one egg.

Then butter is added in chunks, whipped out of the fridge to prevent it softening. Use your hands to squish the butter into the dry ingredients to make a crumble. Once the butter's invisible and you're left with sandy grains, you stop.
The syrup is slurped in, along with the egg. Mix together to form a pasty cement texture.

This mixture is then pushed together (hands-on) to create a dough.

It forms a lumpy dough at first. Further 2-3mins kneading is required...

...To finish with a smooth breakable dough (it's not stretchy).
Roll out to less than 4mm thick. Anything thicker than a 1p coin (English) and you'll get obese men fluffing in the oven.

Use a shaped cutter to form men, stars etc on a floured surface. Add in expressions and haircuts. Lift using a floured spatula (it can get sticky) onto a greased baking tray and bake at 180C for 5-8mins. They need to be tanned, tough and good looking.

Like this. My hot men.

That was fun. And scrumptious. Think I made 500 altogether, -ish. Subhan'Allah.

Was'salamualaykum, peace be with you,
